Alaska Airlines Cancels Four Routes, Hawaiian Airlines Plans First Boeing 787 Seattle Flights

Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines are making several changes to their network.

Alaska Airlines will cancel four routes:

  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Nassau (NAS) is no longer returning next winter

  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Washington Dulles (IAD) ends after August 19

  • San Francisco (SFO) to Washington Dulles (IAD) ends after August 19

  • San Francisco (SFO) to Chicago (ORD) ends after August 19

As of now, Alaska has also not reloaded its Seattle (SEA) to Nassau (NAS) route next winter, meaning it’s possible Alaska will exit Nassau completely. Alaska will end nonstop flights from LAX/SFO to Washington Dulles (IAD) but continues to serve LAX/SFO to Washington National (DCA).

For Hawaiian Airlines, the airline is making several changes to its Boeing 787-9 flights.

Starting August 20, Hawaiian will introduce 1x daily 787 flights from Seattle (SEA) to Honolulu (HNL):

  • HA21 Depart SEA 8:15 AM Arrive HNL 11:17 AM

  • HA22 Depart HNL 1:10 PM Arrive SEA 9:44 PM

From September 11, Hawaiian will add a second daily 787 flight on the HNL-SEA route, both replacing the A330-200.

As the 787 begins entering Seattle, Hawaiian will gradually decrease 787 flights to Los Angeles (LAX), which is set to completely end on October 26 (last flight HA801 LAX β†’ HNL).

Alaska/Hawaiian will soon begin operating these 787s on long-haul flights out of Seattle, but no date has been scheduled yet.

Lastly, Hawaiian will extend 787 flights on its Honolulu (HNL) to New York (JFK) route. Originally planned to suspend on August 20, the 787 will continue operating HNL-JFK through September 10.
