American Airlines Adds New Miami-Portland, Dallas-Albany, Washington DC Routes

American Airlines is expanding with several new routes, including the addition of a route that another carrier announced earlier this week.

Miami to Portland

American Airlines will launch a new route from its Miami (MIA) hub to Portland, Oregon (PDX) starting November 5, 2023

Flights will operate daily using the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8:

  • AA2888 Depart MIA 7:30 PM Arrive PDX 11:20 PM

  • AA2889 Depart PDX 11:55 PM Arrive MIA 8:41 AM (next day)

On Thursday, American’s partner Alaska Airlines announced its own Portland to Miami route. Now American is following with its own flights between the two cities. Although the two airlines are aligned through a West Coast Alliance and are both members of the Oneworld Alliance, American and Alaska still compete with each other.

While American’s service begins November 5, Alaska will commence Portland to Miami flights on November 17 with a daily Boeing 737.

Dallas/Fort Worth to Albany

American Airlines will expand from its largest hub, Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), with a new route to Albany, New York (ALB).

Flights between DFW and Albany launch on November 5 with a daily Airbus A320:

  • AA1265 Depart DFW 7:15 PM Arrive ALB 11:40 PM

  • AA2971 Depart ALB 6:11 AM Arrive DFW 9:06 AM

New Washington D.C. Routes

American will also expand from its Washington National Airport (DCA) hub with the addition of two routes:

  • DCA to Milwaukee (MKE)

  • DCA to Fort Lauderdale (FLL)

The Washington D.C. to Milwaukee route begins October 5 with a twice-daily CRJ-700. American will compete against Southwest Airlines on this route.

American’s DCA to Fort Lauderdale flights begin November 5 with a twice-daily Airbus A319. JetBlue and Southwest Airlines currently serve the route.
