United Airlines Adds New Alaska and Canada Routes

United Airlines is expanding with the addition of four routes to Alaska and Canada:

  • Washington Dulles (IAD) to Anchorage (ANC) starting May 23 with a daily Boeing 737 MAX 8

  • Washington Dulles (IAD) to Vancouver (YVR) starting May 2 with a daily Boeing 737 MAX 8

  • Denver (DEN) to Fairbanks (FAI) starting May 23 with a daily Boeing 737 MAX 8

  • Newark (EWR) to Halifax (YHZ) starting May 23 with a 2x daily Embraer 175

Of the four additions, United’s new Washington Dulles to Anchorage route should be a completely new route or hasn’t operated in recent years. The other three routes are resumptions from 2019 or 2020. United’s IAD-ANC flight will operate with the following timings:

  • UA1471 Depart IAD 5:44 PM Arrive ANC 9:28 PM

  • UA1698 Depart ANC 8:05 PM Arrive IAD 7:07 AM (next day)

Washington Dulles is United’s sixth route from Anchorage after its existing flights to Chicago, Denver, Houston, Newark, and San Francisco.

United’s Newark to Halifax route represents the airline’s return to the Canadian city. Notably, this coming summer both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will restore their New York LaGuardia (LGA) to Halifax route, meaning these three U.S. carriers are all adding capacity to the New York City area market from Halifax.

All four of United’s new routes will operate seasonally with the first three suspending in September while EWR-YHZ suspends at the end of October.
