Avelo Airlines Postpones All New Fort Myers Routes, Suspends Chicago

Avelo Airlines will postpone the launch of all five new Fort Myers (RSW) routes following the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

The airline, which commenced operations last year, intended to open its fourth base in Fort Myers, Florida next month starting with one Boeing 737-800 covering five new routes. However, Avelo has now made the decision to indefinitely postpone the Fort Myers base and the five new routes to the following destinations:

  • Binghamton, New York (BGM)

  • Kalamazoo, Michigan (AZO)

  • Lansing, Michigan (LAN)

  • Lexington, Kentucky (LEX)

  • Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina (RDU)

Avelo Airlines will continue to serve these five cities through other bases, such as Orlando (MCO) and New Haven (HVN). The Boeing 737-800 planned to be stationed in Fort Myers will now shift to the airline’s Orlando base, which will “be used to improve existing schedules as well as fund growth to additional new MCO markets.”

Avelo will continue to fly to Fort Myers (RSW) through its existing New Haven route. However, it will lose several weekly frequencies as part of this schedule change.

In addition to postponing all new Fort Myers flights, Avelo Airlines is modifying other routes in its network. The carrier will suspend its New Haven to Chicago-Midway (MDW) route for the first half of December and from January 4 through the end of February. The upcoming Newport News (PHF) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando routes will operate with two weekly frequencies instead of three through mid-February, excluding weeks with peak demand.
