Lynx Air to Announce Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Orlando
Updated on September 28 to include the specific routes, confirming my reporting from yesterday.
Ultra low-cost competition on flights between Canada and the United States is continuing to heat up.
Canada’s Lynx Air, which commenced operations earlier this year, will be announcing its first four international routes:
Calgary (YYC) to Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS) | Four weekly flights starting February 24
Calgary (YYC) to Los Angeles, California (LAX) | Three weekly flights starting February 16
Calgary (YYC) to Phoenix, Arizona (PHX) | Three weekly flights starting February 7
Toronto (YYZ) to Orlando, Florida (MCO) | Four weekly flights starting January 27
Lynx will be the only ultra low-cost carrier offering flights from Calgary to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Each route faces competition from major Canadian airlines Air Canada and WestJet.
The new Toronto to Orlando flight faces more diverse competition with Air Canada, WestJet, and low-cost carriers Air Transat and Sunwing all offering the route.
Lynx Air currently operates a fleet consisting of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline presently serves a domestic network with ten destinations in Canada, including cities such as Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria.
