Breeze Airways, Aeromexico Propose Orange County (SNA) Flights

Breeze Airways and Aeromexico could soon launch flights to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Southern California.

Both airlines have proposed to begin service starting January 1, 2023.

2021 startup Breeze Airways requested to operate three daily flights out of SNA Airport, but has tentatively been allocated two slots. Breeze will now be placed at the top of SNA’s Incumbent Priority List if a new slot is available.

If launched, SNA will become Breeze’s fifth destination in California, specifically, the fourth in Southern California following Los Angeles (LAX), San Bernardino (SBD), and the planned Long Beach (LGB) flights later this fall.

Breeze Airways intends to operate its 126-seat Airbus A220-300 aircraft for these Orange County flights. The aircraft’s high performance capabilities could allow Breeze to offer transcontinental routes from SNA Airport.

Additionally, Mexico’s flag carrier Aeromexico has tentatively received one daily slot for Orange County service using its 166-seat Boeing 737 MAX 8. However, it will be subject to the FAA restoring Mexico’s Category 1 rating. Mexico presently is under a FAA Category 2 rating, which prohibits new routes to the U.S. on Mexico-based airlines.

This proposed slot distribution will be subject to approval by the airport authority next month.

This scoop will be updated later with more details.
